The Nursery 2 Project started in 2012 and aimed in building 3 night quarters for the nursery group. These new facilities will be attached to an open air playground and, by means of a tunnel,  will be linked to the Nursery 1 area. We talked about this project already many months ago.

A new chimp orphan arrived at the sanctuary several days ago: Mata, a young male  a bit older than 1 year old.

Our sanctuary welcomed a new orphan the day after Kala's passing. Late in the afternoon a man came at the gates of our sanctuary with a young female chimpanzee. Yes, I believe this small bat was lucky! It was found stuck inside our office the other day and Franck managed to catch it in order to relesae it at the sanctuary.

J.A.C.K. is located South DRC, not far from the Zambian border.

Since many people are asking to come and stay at the Sanctuary, we have decided building a volunteer camp. A volunteer program  could provide help but also bring in some money for the chimps! Yes, dear Friends, as most of you know already, a few weeks ago we had a vet flying over from South Africa, Dr Bruce PECK, to sedate all the chimps and to do some health checks. All that poaching and slaughter brings  so much bushmeat and too  many orphans on local markets and just a very small number of these latters are  "lucky" to be saved, given shelter, security and love after so much pain...

No good news for today: we had an X-ray of Tommy's arm and he has osteomyelitis.

Remember, I told you he had had a pellet gone through his right arm and different treatments had been given to Tommy before his transfer to our sanctuary.

When driving back from her office, Thea, a friend of us,  had seen the little girl in the arms of a young Congolese man.

After a long wait at the Goma airport, Tongo and Faustin finally managed to get on the plane and to take off. The flight wasn't that long, but these few hours lasted for ages....Franck and I were very impatient !!

Dear Friends,

Winter started a few weeks ago. Yes, here in Central Africa, we have a cold season from May untill end of October. Nights are colder, 5 to 8 degrees Celsius (41-46°Fahrenheit) which is quite chilly as we are used to 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75-82°Fahrenheit).

Angeline is the first surrogate mother we had just after the fire. Before the tragedy, two young men had been in charge of the babies during day but decided to stop working when JAK and TOUZO died.

Dear All,

 

Let's share that surprising news. A new young chimpanzee orphan has recently been seized by local authorities and brought at the Refuge Centre. SEKI is a young male of about 3 1/2 to 4 years old and is in an amazing condition: his fur is beautiful, his physical condition is great and SEKI doesn't show any sign of malnutrition nor mistreatment.

Remember, on October 20th, you were told on Manioc Valley about a baby chimpanzee called "JAC" that had joined J.A.C.K. Refuge Center.
